First Mac Blog!...

Welcome and hurrah for me! This is my first blog from my newly aquired iBook. A bit depressed at the spec, considering I expected 512MB RAM and assumed a 1GHz processor, but the 800MHz 256MB iBook is singing happily here. Tiger installed seamlessly. To be honest, had I actually looked at the install modules, I could’ve saved about 15 minutes by leaving all the language packs out. Having installed Windows on over...

Weekend Update...

In a typical diarmy-style move, I forgot to blog the weekend report. But to be honest, nothing happened really that moved me enough to think that it was worth documenting. diarmy

Laptop Revamp...

So many people are buying laptops these days (I confess, I bought an iBook on Friday) but Windows ones… Millions of them are shifted through production lines and into peoples homes every year. More and more people have laptops. It seems a given now that students have to have them. But my laptop (senior by rank of age and not technology) is a Dell Inspiron 4150 Notebook, purchased in October of 2002 at a cost of IR£...

Apple Mac OS X 10.4...

Well, yet another trip by my MasterCard villians brought me to the Apple Store once more to splash out on my very own copy of Tiger, the new Mac OS. Last week, while on a secret and ongoing reconnaissance mission in eBay, I finally took the plunge, and invested in an iBook. Costing a mere €400 on top of profits from a much hyped sale (my first genuine one on the site) on eBay, the iBook is due to be delivered tomorrow...

PayPal – Credit Cards...

Welcome to the Republic of Ireland, land of a thousand welcomes, the Island of Saints and Scholars and the country with no enemies. Ireland has been dubbed (by our illustrious Government) as the Digital Hub of Europe. This “Digital Hub” brought with it tax incentives that has attracted some of the world’s largest companies and corporations to our island. Intel, Microsoft, DELL, Google, eBay all have...

Weekend Update...

This week was another such week filled with European scepticism. With the French and British governments engaging in hefty tete-a-tete meetings, An Taoiseach was more blunt than I’ve ever seen! Things are quiet at this, most westerly and remote part of Ireland and Europe. Broadband is poking its lovely head out of places in the WiFi world which has finally come to Dingle. It’s been a quiet week too on diarmydotnet....

Gaeilge san Eoraip (Irish in Europe)...

Today, EU Leaders agreed to adopting and recognising the Irish language as a language of the European Union. As someone who frowns upon activists, I’d like to take the bold step and thank them for drawing attention to the plight of Gaeilge in Europe. Come 2007, all documents pertaining to matters in the European Union will be translated. Brilliant! Suggestions have been put forward that diarmydotnet be translated,...

Weekend Update...

The first in my new “Weekend Updates” section brings news from the little town through which I was lovingly dragged up through my infant years, Dingle. Back once again to the tiny fishing port and tourist magnet, life has “dropped a cog” (driver-talk meaning to slow down by decellerating to a lower gear) since my move from the State Capital. A big shout goes out to my pals at Dingle Internet Cafe...

Moving...

Well I made the move again, leaving the quiet South Dublin neighbourhood where I lived for what seemed like a few short weeks. My penance done, student-dom lies in the near future once more. Kerry-bound was I this day, Far gone the leafy city green, From sun swept Dublin bay, To home I must now beam. Quiet day in the world today. A great friend finally met with the internet, extending himself online. Call by www.seangranville.com...

Apple move to Intel platform...

With much shock and dismay, I read the news articles on the much touted Apple WWDC and the news of Apple moving from the problematic (but worth mentioning, DIFFERENT) PowerPC chipsets made by Motorla (now Freescale) and IBM. Is this a step forward or a leap backward I have to ask?? For a while now Intel have been succeeded in the chipsets world by Advanced Micro Devices, and the decision to move to Intel will prompt a...
